When Liz walks into the gym, she takes my breath away. She's beautiful, confident, and, oh man, sassy. She strolls up, flips her hand holding my credit card over, and presents it with a Cheshire cat grin. "I only spent $255."

My eyebrows raise, "I'm impressed."

"I bought makeup to hide my booboo." She points to it like I don't know where it is because it's hidden now. "Three shirts and two pairs of shorts. Which I feel is plenty because surely someone misses my…." She rolls her eyes for emphasis and says, "smart-ass and will be looking for me. But in the event no one comes to claim me, I can mix and match."

She steps up close, slips her arm around my waist to hug her tits against me, and cups my face with her hand, pulling me down to hear her whisper, "I didn't buy anything unnecessary like, you know, bras and panties."

I chuckle. She's an incorrigible flirt. I lean away, needing space because the urge to plant a big smooch on her lips surges through my veins, and based on how good she tasted when I did indulge the urge, I should put distance between us.

Her eyes frown as I move away, then drop to my groin. She sees the bulge growing and clicks her tongue, smirking. Winning.

Minx.

Tanner trots up with a rolled towel draped over his shoulders and wipes the dripping sweat off his face, then says, "Hi, Elizabeth! You wouldn't happen to be kin to the Elizabeth Taylor, would you?"

Her expression freezes, losing focus for a moment.

"She's probably some distance relative, given your eye color. That trait is rare."

She smiles, back in the present again, and shrugs. "Your guess is as good as mine."

"Oh, I'm not guessing. I researched the genetic likelihood, and it's an extremely rare trait, so it's highly probable."

Again Liz loses focus for a split second before she shrugs, "Honestly—Tanner, is it?"

He nods.

"I don't have a clue if I'm kin to the movie star Elizabeth Taylor or not. I can't remember shit, remember?"

He chuckles at his admonishment of her situation and says, "Touché."

She looks at me and winks, and a smirk teases my stoic mouth.

Caleb arrives and announces, "Well, the police just called and confirmed it."

Her brows furrow, darting to look at me. I have stood stoic as a statue while she and Tanner bantered, but that look breaks my composure. She's afraid.

Caleb pauses, concerned by her reaction, and looks at me for guidance.

I lift my arm, and Liz slides underneath and snuggles up tight when I hug her close. Then I nod to Caleb to continue.

He finishes, looking like he needs a hug too. "They still haven't gotten any missing persons matching your description."

She lets out the breath she was holding, and I look down at her. The relief on her face strikes my heart like a gong. She's relieved no one is looking for her. Why?

Has she remembered and is worried she'll be found? The world is an evil place. I know that better than most.
